MUTI’s Story
Muti was founded and created by expert hair stylists and educators Stephen Mendelson and Dee Lescault.
Over the course of their careers, Stephen and Dee had used countless products on clients and were consistently left feeling that they under delivered.
“So many of the popular products on the market make hair look better today but don’t do much for it tomorrow. They’re made with synthetic ingredients to cut costs and the molecules are so big that they just sit on top of the hair, rather than treating the real issues which start at the scalp” says Dee. With a desire to formulate a product that is truly effective, Stephen went searching for something unique in its ability to nourish and restore the scalp. “I was visiting family back home in South Africa and became aware of a mud mixture they were using to treat their skin.
After seeing the benefits, I immediately wanted to create something similar for hair care.”
Soon after his trip to South Africa, a microbiologist introduced him to Moringa.
Moringa has been used in connection with the treatment of cancer and other skin issues. He then shared those findings with a chemist at Westwood Labs who was astounded by how high it was in nutrients and antioxidants. Excited and inspired, Stephen, Dee, and the team at Westwood Labs spent the next 8 years developing a hair care system with Moringa as its foundational ingredient. The result was Muti (a slang word for “tribal healer in South Africa), which consists of a shampoo, conditioner and detangler known as “Miracle Drops”. Each of these products reflect the philosophy that Stephen and Dee have built their entire career on: healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp.
Muti understands the delicate balance between nature and science when it comes to haircare. Stephen believes “the industry is caught between companies who use cheaper chemicals to increase profit, and consumers who believe all-natural is synonymous with better.”
The truth is both harsh chemicals and all-natural ingredients can have similar effects on skin and hair.
MUTI represents 8 years of using science to harness the best nature has to offer for the ultimate benefit of the individuals using the product.
With the Muti Hair Care System now ready and available, Stephen and Dee are committed to further educating both professionals and consumers about proper hair care, while providing them with a product that reflects this knowledge.
Elaborating on Muti’s place in the industry, Dee says, “Stephen and I felt compelled to create a solution for the gaps we saw in the market. We are confident that the Muti Hair Care System not only delivers beautiful cosmetic results, but more importantly prioritizes the long term health of our customers’ hair.”
MUTI’s Ingredients
We need to clear some things up when it comes to reading an ingredient label.
First, yes, for decades, big companies used cheap, damaging chemicals in their products to increase their profits. Nowadays, users have become increasingly focused on using products that contain more natural ingredients. This is good! However, this belief that “all-natural” is synonymous with “better” is not always true. In fact, some products with natural ingredients can cause scalp irritation the same way harsh chemicals do for many users. So, what then is the answer to finding the right product for you? Like many other things in life, the solution is found somewhere in the middle and requires education and experience to identify. So allow us to educate you! First, if you see a bunch of unpronounceable words, even on products that claim to be natural or organic, don’t be afraid! Some ingredients that sound “chemical-y” are necessary for your safety and help the product work effectively. For example, preservatives must be used to prevent natural components in the product from growing mold and bacteria when left in a warm moist environment. An emulsifier must be included because some components may not mix well with each other without one. So, remember that we can use science to assist and deliver nature to your scalp and hair in a way that benefits you!
The following list explains the benefits of some of the nature we have carefully selected for the Muti Hair Care System after years of experience and research.
Moringa Oleifera is rich in nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants. It helps keep the scalp and hair strong and supple.
Sea Kelp contains magnesium for strength to help prevent breakage and split ends. It also keeps your hair moisturized by attracting moisture from the atmosphere.
Sage protects the hair and scalp from free radicals..
Chamomile is used to soothe the scalp from inflammation or dryness.
Red Ginseng helps promote blood flow feeding the root bulb. It has been know to increase the diameter of the hair follicle and promote hair growth.
